When the way in which one perceives world is defined by color and form, it is a sign that the world is perceived, through one’s eyes, by someone else as well. We usually define this by somewhat vague term ’talent’, or, a gift of spirit. But, it is not just a gift, it is an inner force that enables us to understand, comprese, and present the understood in an external form.
This is the essence of mosaic making: conjunction of two realities, two completely separate worlds. In mosaic we join two segments, two tesserae that, at first glance, seem incompatible, awkward in their difference, but if we look deeper we see the way in which they could be joined. This is how the mosaic happens, this is how a piece of material becomes tesserae. The meaning appears. If we treat the whole image in this way, product will be a true mosaic that carries deep meaning and significance. This meaning is important not only for the author, but for viewers who contemplate the work.
This is the answer to the question why we make mosaic today, or, art in general.
